Overwhelm Returned

Key Idea: Christ provides the church with a divine supply that fills all needs and gives life meaning, and the church responds by living a worship stance that portrays Christ in gratitude for grace, trust for a good end, and partnership toward glory.

Christ provides the church with a divine supply that fills all needs and gives life meaning. He supplies all the resources we need in support of his mission. These resources can be drawn upon when needed. They are not random but essential to a life that exists for God’s mission, for life is not mere existence but purposeful existence. These resources give followers a capacity of available knowledge, skills, and opportunity to do what is needed to fit them for the necessary functions of the mission.

The church responds to these gifts of capacity by portraying Christ in a life of gratitude for such grace. We owe God our gratitude in response to his grace and an appreciation of the benefits received. It goes beyond a mere acknowledgment to an ongoing recognition of God’s eternal generosity.

The church responds to these gifts of capacity by portraying Christ in a life of trust in his good end. This good end is our hope, a God-given surety lived in hearts set toward his goodness. Hope is not wishing for something that may not happen but reliance upon God, who makes and keeps promises.

The church responds to these gifts of capacity by portraying Christ in a life of partnership toward glory. Discipleship is our lived portrayal of him, for through our words, deeds, and attitudes, we tell the story of Jesus to all around us.
